With Jimmy Carr, you know what you’re going to get: lots of laughs and – if you’re a sensitive soul – deeply offended.
Fortunately, Huffy of Hammersmith appeared to be absent at the Eventim Apollo on Friday night, as the half Irish/half Roger Federer comedian (his words, not mine), took to the stage.
If you’ve seen any of Jimmy Carr’s shows before, live or on DVD, this gig followed a similar pattern – lots of jokes, some lewd drawings and a heckling amnesty. It’s a formula that’s brought him a lot of success, so why not stick with it?
While the structure may be familiar, the jokes are fresh, so you shouldn’t feel short-changed in any way. I’d love to be able to bring you some of the best gags of the night, but that could ruin the show for you. Suffice to say, the audience lapped them up – especially the ones about his troubles with the tax man and any time he broke out his infamous seagull laugh.
The tour returns to the Apollo in November and he’s all over the country before then (does this man ever sleep?!), so there’s no excuse not to go out and get yourself a ticket… maybe don’t go with your mum, though.
