When you think of East London, you immediately think of golf, right? No? Maybe you should try out Swingers, just off Great Eastern Street in Shoreditch.
The concept of Swingers is a simple one – people like drinking and they like crazy golf, so why not mix the two? Located in an otherwise nondescript old warehouse, half of the floorspace is given up to a raised bar area with some street food outlets (pizza, chips, meatballs and the like), while the rest is the somewhat unusual sight of nine holes of indoor minigolf.
It totally works though – the bar has all your favourite drinks (albeit at what are probably typical trendy East London prices) and the music is sublime – it’s all up tempo fun stuff, starting with Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, and taking in my personal favourite, Ignition (Remix). Ini Kamoze was just playing as we left, so I kinda wish we’d decided to stay longer.
You can go just for the food, drink and music, but really, you’d be missing a trick, as the crazy golf is kinda Swingers’ USP. As a result, it’s very popular – we only got in because we know somebody who knows somebody, but if you’ve got a birthday, work do or just fancy a different night out, get booked well in advance – it’s more than worth the £8 per person entrance fee.
Oh, and I won, which always helps. I was going to blog about it anyway, but getting round in a par 21 made things a little bit easier. If you decide to visit, let me know how you do!
